Encourage and support creative collaboration through our devising immersive theatre workshop.
Our Devising Immersive Theatre workshop aimed at Key Stage 3 and 4 introduces the concept of structuring and creating a piece of immersive work. Understanding more deeply the mechanics behind this form of theatre and engaging participants in every stage of development, resulting in a performance of their own.
The stimulus theme is decided on for them, but from that point on they have to collaborate with each other to create the space in which the world is to take place, the narrative, the characters and what form of immersive theatre they would like to focus on.
It could be ‘playable theatre’ within which they ask audience members to solve a problem or go on a mission, ‘narrative-based’ where audience members have a promenade experience where they are guided from one scene to the next, or ‘free roaming’ where audience members are free to roam where they want and experience the action in whatever order they like. The participants will learn to share their creative ideas with the group and listen to others as well as character development which is vital when audience members are given agency to speak and interact with you, devising skills and techniques, how to build a world with set dressing ideas and costume as well as the complexity of this form of theatre.
Workshop Themes
The French Revolution – When the French Revolution started in 1789, few wanted the death of the king or the end of the monarchy. But just 4 years later the king’s head had been
chopped off. Why?
Emmeline Pankhurst and the Vote for Women - How did Emmeline and the suffragette movement finally succeed in winning the vote for women? Children will learn what went into being an activist for this cause at this time in the UK.
A Mid Summers Nights Dream – Taking Shakespeare's classic tale of comedy and misdirection into the 21st Century. Asking the children where and when we could base our version. Who could the fairies be? Who could the audience be and what could be their role?
